CERT Training
CERT classes are aimed at preparing groups of citizens in the South Pierce Fire & Rescue Fire District to prepare for and respond to disasters! The classes follow the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) model that is offered in cities across the United States.
The idea behind The Community Emergency Response Team training is to teach citizens in all communities how to help each other in the first few minutes, hours and possibly days following a disaster - before emergency responders are able to get to us to render professional help. In the classes, students will gain knowledge for skills such as how to put out small fires, render fast aid in a disaster situation, and perform light search and rescue.
The series consist of eight classes which will be held over twenty some hours broken down into manageable meetings culminating on the last day with an open book test and receipt of a certificate of completion.
While your tax deductible donation will be greatly appreciated the classes are free! Upon completion if students are interested in plugging in with the local CERT team graduates are encouraged to join the SPFR Support Services team for ongoing training and skill set practice if they wish!
